Research Programme 2016-17

Do you, or some of your staff, have a good research idea but need some support and some thinking time to make it happen?

The Education and Training Foundation is committed to seeking opportunities to give those working in the sector the time and space to reflect, experiment, apply, and generate their own, evidence in order to improve their and  their colleagues’ practice and ultimately outcomes for learners.

We are pleased to demonstrate this by offering opportunities, for another year, to those wishing to undertake a supported action research project during the academic year 2016-17.

These programmes are open to applications from anyone employed in the sector who:

  • has a good research idea; and
  • which is supported by their line/senior management; and supports their organisation’s improvement plan.

Previous participants have included College Principals and Senior Managers, Classroom Teachers, Department Heads, Learning Resources/Library staff, and student mentors.

All types of providers are welcome, and have been represented in the past, including Offender Learning, Adult and Community Learning, Specialist Provision, as well as FE Colleges.

Turn your good idea into great practice!

There are two types of opportunity (both programmes will accept applications from any region of England, any type of provider and any type of practitioner role):

  1. The Research Development Fellowship (RDF) Programme which has been running since 2009 and delivered in partnership with the University of Sunderland Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (SUNCETT).
  2. The Exploratory Research in maths and English Programme is intended for practitioners who would like the opportunity to further develop their research idea focused on maths and English teaching. This programme will also be delivered in partnership with SUNCETT. It will complement the other opportunities which the Foundation is already providing as part of our commitment to supporting practitioners to confidently teach maths and English both as separate subjects and also as an essential part of vocational teaching.

Applications for the 2016-17 programme are now open until Monday 3 October 2016.

The application forms and guidance note are here

Please assist us by promoting the programmes within your organisation and to your external networks/contacts within the sector.
